This project was developed in collaboration with Andreas Berzdorf, and Mathis Marsepoil.
It questions the concept of wildlife surveillance through hidden camera traps, inviting visitors into the installation space to reconsider the relationship between interspecies surveillance and hierarchy.
The visitors, as human beings, hold the privilege of being the one who can closely observe the “private” or “intimate” moments of wild animals shown on the screen, but at the same time, that ‘privilege’ is immediately dismantled as their presence is broadcast as spectacle, making them objects of observation without their awareness.
Humans are acknowledged as the only species occupying the position of observing animals through camouflaged cameras, but in reality, animals can sense such devices, indicating that they are aware of our interference.
The nature-like sound surrounding the installation are artificial and were digitally created.
The title Red Dot refers to the small red dots indicating that a camera is recording, and to the infrared light spectrum used by wildlife cameras for nighttime filming.
